About the work

Hideki Motosuwa, a country boy who just moved to Tokyo to prepare for his university entrance exams, finds an abandoned persocom — a humanoid computer — discarded in the trash one night. He takes her home and names her Chi. But Chi doesn't behave like other persocoms: unable to remember anything when she wakes up, she seems to hide a much deeper mystery, tied to the urban legend of the "Chobits", mysterious persocoms said to possess a genuine heart.

Created by the CLAMP collective, Chobits sensitively explores urban loneliness and the boundary between human and machine in a society where everyone owns their own persocom. Blending romantic comedy with deeper questions about what truly defines a heart, the series was a huge success in both manga and anime, becoming a genre classic at the turn of the 2000s.
